- Tatis 2 grand slams in the same inning off the same pitcher

Albert Pujols is drafted in the 13th round of the MLB draft

Highlights:

Not too many this year, but there were some bright spots!!!

Mark McGwire -  What can you say about one of the best home run hitters of all time.  Big Mac hit 65 dingers this year giving him 522 for his career and putting him 10th on the career home run list. His other numbers this year include:  147 RBIs, 145 hits, and 133 BBs.   (Named USA Today player of the week twice, 8/3 & 9/27) (Ranked 7th in the Sporting News 1999 top 100 index.)

Fernando Tatis -  Could this trade be another "steal" like Lou Brock or Willie McGee?   Fernando was outstanding this year at the plate and very solid at third base.   He hit 2 grand slams in the same inning early in the season and went on to hit 34 HRs.  His other numbers this year include: 107 RBIs, 160 hits, and 82 BBs.   (Named USA Today player of the week, 4/27) (Ranked 43rd in the Sporting News 1999 top 100 index.)

Kent Bottenfield - Who would have ever thought Bottenfield would have 18 wins?  A delight to watch in an otherwise lackluster starting rotation.  He has the same number of wins this year as he had for his entire big league career!

Joe McEwing - Every team needs a player like "Super Joe!!!"

Craig Paquette - A mid to late season acquisition showed some unexpected power!

Darren Bragg - Before his knee injury he showed he could play everyday.

Rick Ankiel - What the future holds!!!

Jose Jimenez - Needs to get focused, but did pitch the Cardinal's 8th ever no-hitter on 6/25.

Ray Lankford hits two HRs in a game three times in the month of May.   Ray also hit more triples in the 1990s than any other Cardinals player - 45.

The Birds score 16 runs and get 19 hits in a 16-5 thrashing of the Expos in Montreal on 5/1.  Both were season highs.  J.D. Drew also scored 5 times in the game.

Joe McEwing has a 25 game hitting streak in June and early July.  This is the longest ever by a Cardinal rookie, the 5th longest by a major league rookie and number 8 overall in Cardinals history.

Mark McGwire had 6 RBIs in a July 16th loss to the Chicago White Sox.

On August 8th,  Mark McGwire blasts his 500th home run of Alan Ashby of the San Diego Padres.

On Sept. 17th McGwire, Tatis, and Howard went deep (back to back to back).  Only the fourth time in Cardinal history and the first since 1964.

Donovan Osborne has the most strikeouts by a Cardinal pitcher in the 1990s - 535.

An upscale seating area called "Batter's Eye Club" is added to center field.
