Joe Torre - 1991

Highlights:

At the end of July, the Cards were 7 1/2 games behind the division leading Pirates, and at the end of August were 8 games out, but had moved in to second place.

In the last game before the All-Star break, Pedro Guerrero suffered a hairline fracture of his left leg and was schedule to miss six weeks.

Lee Smith got his 300th career save on August 25th against the Dodgers.

On September 15th, Ray Lankford hits for the cycle against the Mets.

The Cards announce that for the 1992 season, the fences would be moved in 12 feet in center and 8 feet in the power alleys.  The height of the fence would lowered to 8 feet as well.

In off-season moves, the Cards traded Ken Hill for Andres Galarraga.

The Cards were rumored to be pursuing the White Sox's Sammy Sosa.

1991 was a great year if you were a Cardinals player named Smith,  Ozzie set a league record for fewest errors by a shortstop in a season, Lee set a new N.L. record with 47 saves, and Bryn led the team in victories with 12.

Hired Don Baylor as the hitting coach.
